Welder's Helper Position Details

Duties & Responsibilities
Including, but not limited to, the following tasks.

  • Understand and follow all Company Policies and Safety Regulations
  • Perform any duties to assist welders in welding, brazing, thermal, and arc cutting activities
  • Move work pieces, tools, and supplies manually or by mechanized means
  • Lift, move, hold, or clamp work pieces to table, into jigs, or into position as directed
  • Cleans work pieces to remove impurities such as slag, rust, and grease
  • Use a wire brush, portable grinder or hand held scraper
  • Connect hoses from hand torch to oxygen and fuel gas cylinders
  • Connect power source to electrode holder and workplace or fixture
  • Place work pieces into furnace to preheat for specified time
  • Remove, tag, mark, or move finished work
  • Attach grappling equipment to objects prior to movement by crane
  • Perform a variety of duties, which may change often
  • Repeat tasks of short duration according to a set procedure
  • Evaluate information using measurable standards
  • Responsible for turning in time properly

Ongoing Position Requirements

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Prior experience driving standard transmission one (1) ton pick-up trucks

Position Requirements (Daily)

  • Attend tailgate Safety meeting
  • Report any accidents or injuries
  • Sign in/out sheet
  • Keep shop or work area clean and clear of safety hazards
  • Check supplies and tools on welding rig and re-supply as needed
  • Keep tools and equipment clean and ready

Physical Demands

  • Occasionally lift and carry fifty (50) to one hundred (100) pounds
  • Frequently lift and carry twenty-five (25) to fifty (50) pounds
  • Work long hours and some weekends
  • Occasionally exert fifty (50) to one hundred (100) pounds of force
  • Use hands and arms to manipulate objects
  • Climb, bend, kneel, and lift
  • Good vision (Either naturally or corrective)
  • Climb and maintain balance
